Cheap Makati Hotel | Pension House

It’s not only when I’m on the road that I find myself homeless. There are also extraordinary times when I have to vacate my apartment and live in a hotel. Like what happened last weekend. A few relatives of the significant other arrived from the province to attend a wedding in Manila. Why the wedding had to be in Manila is a story in itself, and one that I’m not prepared to discuss here.

Suffice it to say that instead of them (there were at least 5 of them) having to spend mounds of money staying in a hotel in Makati, I made the supreme effort of vacating my apartment and have them stay there instead. See what love can do(blech)?

My apartment is a bit roomy so their number shouldn’t be a problem. I, on the other hand, have to deal with finding a suitable accommodation that would tide me over for the entire weekend but wouldn’t leave a huge hole in my pockets. Staying in those big Makati Hotels is out of the question. I’m not very picky when it comes to accommodations, just give me a big bed and a clean toilet and I’m one happy camper.

I went to the internet and did some research and was frustrated by how difficult it was to find a good site that shows reviews on mid-range hotels especially in Makati. Actually I’m not entirely blameless here. I see a site that screams commercial and I run in the opposite direction. I wanted to find a blog or a website talking about a particular budget hotel and their recent experience staying in that place. It would be great also if the site could include the phone number of the hotel and the cost for a night’s stay.

Unfortunately, I think my personal filters were too stringent so I wasn’t very successful with my search. Fortunately however, I already have a place in mind. One that I’ve already stayed in before and had no problems whatsoever. It’s also the same place that I usually recommend to friends whenever they come to Makati for a conference or something. So I called St. Illian’s Inn and made a reservation.

St. Illian’s Inn is a quaint little hotel located along Santillan St. In Makati. The landmark is Makati Cinema Square (MCS). Santillan St. is just parallel to Pasong Tamo. The place is quiet and the rooms are clean. They also serve meals in the lobby which is very convenient. If only I went directly to this Inn, I would have spared myself a couple of hours of internet searching, but like most folks, I like to give myself options.

Anyway, St. Illian’s Inn is a very good place to stay in Makati if you’re in a budget. If money is no object, you might want to try New World Renaissance Hotel in Greenbelt. I’ve stayed there (company sponsored of course) in a couple of occasions and I must say their breakfast buffet is one for the books.
